The
internet is primarily a content platform. More and more people are
using the internet for content and less for communications or commerce.
This is a great opportunity for professionals in the real estate
industry to write and syndicate articles for others to see. Any serious
professional today, must have a internet marketing presence.
Consider the recent study by the Online Publishers Association. The
study finds that content is drawing more eyeballs and for long periods
of time than either communications portals or commerce sites.
The
study shows that people spent 42% of their online time on content
sites, up from 34% in 2003. For many people, the internet has replaced
television and newspapers as a source for content. In fact, the actual
time spent on content sites has doubled.
Email used to be the killer app. Now content looks a lot like the new
killer app. According to the OPA People spent only 27% of their time on
communication sites in 2009 down from 46% in 2003. People are using the
web for content more often than for any other purpose. Writing and
blogging to have a voice is a must for professionals and this trend is
likely to continue.
